And so it begins. At first, only you are aware of the changes. They happen deep within your body, your heart and your mind. Before long, the changes become visible to the world. No matter how many children you may have had or will have, you will never again experience this moment with this baby in this way. Maternity photography can capture some of those changes so that you can look back on this time and relive some of those moments.
A maternity portrait session can capture many different aspects of your pregnancy and some of the different sides of you. There are times when you just focus on the tight, stretched skin of your belly and that mysterious line that has appeared. Other times you feel majestic and goddess like, reveling in your glow, your new shape and the life that is growing within you. Or maybe you've never felt closer to your partner, dreaming and planning your new life that lays ahead. A maternity photography session with Clare Fisher tries to capture a few different styles of images to create mementos of the emotions you might have been going through during this wonderful time.
New York City Maternity Photography Studio
Most of Clare's sessions take place in her NYC studio. It is here that she has all her different backgrounds, fabrics and wonderful window light to create a fantastic range of images. Clare has a variety of different fabrics in many colors to create the fantasy images with the flowing or draped fabric. If your style of maternity photography is more classic, you might prefer to do some nudes or partial nudes. Nude maternity photography is similar to fine art photography where the emphasis is on the curves of your shape, you decide how much you'd like to reveal or to hide. Clare Fisher has lots of experience with the human form no matter what the shape and size. With past experience as a fashion photographer, one of her clients was a plus size clothing store, so Clare has lots of knowledge about flattering posing. Then there is the option of doing some photographs in your own clothes, no need to limit yourself to your maternity clothes, since you will not be walking out and around, some clothes that you love might work out really well for a maternity photography portrait session.
When should you schedule your maternity session?
Maternity sessions are usually done around 30-38 weeks. Schedule your session earlier if you are carrying multiples or if you feel you are getting too uncomfortable. As for the time of day for your session, keep in mind that some women become more swollen around their ankles and fingers as the day wears on. If your bump is small you can wait until later in your pregnancy.
